A Life Under Construction

There are days when I feel like a cottage in the constant process of renovation–like God is continually tearing down walls, replacing beams and reframing, shattering windows and piecing together His work of art. He keeps renovating with the goal of changing the whole structure into something new, something better, something worthy of Him.

The rebuilding process is painful, but oh so worth it, even when it seems like the construction will never end. Fortunately, I can continue to imagine the finished mansion and know that only God is able to see the completed masterpiece that He’s in the process of creating.
Even when I can’t feel Him, He is there, patching up blemishes in the wood and smoothing the rough patches, reinforcing the foundation, slowly making me into a dwelling that He can one day reside in and not just visit from time to time. Each and every change and adjustment has been worth it, but oh, the mixture of pain and joy! At times, it is indescribably-excruciating, but I’ve discovered that through it all, those moments of agony are the ones that produce the most growth and visible progress.

So, I try to focus on the mansion that will one day be completed, a beautiful fortress that will hopefully bring the Lord joy when He is there. I wish for that more than anything, and I hope my life will come to reflect His work. I hope that one day, He will look inside the dwelling He has created and see nothing but love, and find it worthy of continued expansion until He is inclined to declare, “It is enough, and though there are still imperfections, it’s time for Me to move in permanently.” What an amazing day that will be!

Wishing you all an awesome weekend!
